Dave Rich – Pre-Release

The Dave Rich Band – “Sails and bridges”

Release date 7th Dec 2009.

DaveRichDave has been slowly working on this his 2nd album over the last few years and the song writing has definitely taken a turn into the more personal and reflective.

“It’s been a harder album to write,- mainly because some of these songs are way more personal than I would’ve felt comfortable with a few years back – but that’s what inspired me – I found writing a song and then leaving a year or so for it to get comfortable helped – but if I stop and think about some of the tracks,- Sails and Bridges for instance,- then yeah it’s still stuff that’s very close to home”

It’s also been a change in instrumentation,- Dave focusing more on the piano with this release.

“Yeah, The guitar was always a convenience thing for me,- and folks who’ve seen our shows the passed few years won’t really be surprised that I’m now pretty piano focussed. It’s always been my first instrument and although I can play guitar well, I know I’ll never get any better at it – it’s just not my thing and I’m in this for the journey and the learning – I’ll probably end up doing really off the wall Jazz or something!”

The band is also a slightly different line up this time around.

“Yes, this album has really been a studio album, – we’ve not gigged for ages, and during that time things have happened and although folks who saw the band live in the last few years would’ve seen Darren and Owen – it’s a different kind of set up really. Owen has his own great band – the Needletones, and Darren works as a dep drummer – so who knows if we’ll tour this album. I’d love to do a few shows but I think unless things really take off it’ll be a small-scale thing,- not like the manic gigging we used to do – it ended up being a bit destructive really. As for Brian and Kaye and Julz – I still see them occasionally and they’re all well and happy and I’m still grateful to have worked with them. I still gig with Andreas all the time in our cover songs outfits.”

And of the future….?

“I’m really doing this for the love of it now,- we’ll do a few shows I’m sure- and we all still gig regularly with other projects, as well as doing cover gigs to earn a crust. I have a baby on the way (due Nov 7th) so I’m also kinda busy with that right now,- but sure whilst I’m inspired and loving it I’ll keep writing and playing and hopefully we can organise a few live shows next year to give the

material a proper airing – My biggest wish is that one day I can make it pay enough to support the band touring,- who knows. Hooray for the internet!”

Yes, the internet.

“This is an mp3 release. It’s the way of the future for us independent bands. The last album was also a CD release,- and to be honest although the critics liked it, we just couldn’t back it up with the big-ticket promotion to shift the music and I probably only just about broke even,- mp3s make much better business sense – although I admit if I could do a CD release I would.”

Short Biog:

Dave was brought up in Pensilva, Cornwall and started playing keyboards at age 5. Since he was 19 he has

played live around the area in various bands and also did the solo gigging circuit for a while playing covers. In

commercially. Prior to that he released 5 albums from his website,- achieving top 20 placements in the mp3
